I've only ever participated in battles in the wild thus far. Personally, I don't really have much of a taste for such a thing, so I don't participate in trainer battles.

But your Pokemon tends to be a certain type, and will have skills based on that type. Somewhat like magic, but I believe they're just a part of their biology.
